India’s wedding season is driving a surge in hotel bookings, with many properties fully booked and record-breaking revenues for the hospitality industry.
As the wedding season in India reaches its peak, hotels across the country are seeing a dramatic surge in bookings, with many properties fully booked or completely sold out. This year’s wedding season is shaping up to be a record-breaker, with numerous hotels reporting their highest-ever business figures since the pandemic and some even marking their most successful wedding season in history.
Unprecedented Growth in Hotel Bookings
The surge in wedding bookings has exceeded all expectations. Ashok Singh Rathore, Area Director for Rajasthan at IHCL and General Manager of Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, shared that the current wedding season has far surpassed previous years.
“Our property has recorded the highest-ever average daily rates and occupancies just last month,” Rathore said. While peak seasons like Christmas and New Year typically see room rates soar to Rs 1 lakh, this wedding season has seen similar rates reached much earlier.
Rathore attributes the uptick in bookings to guests’ increasing demand for customized experiences at iconic properties, and the growing willingness of couples and their families to spend on premium wedding experiences.
Historic Revenue Growth Across Hotel Chains
The wedding season is also driving historic revenue growth for major hotel chains. Nikhil Sharma, Managing Director and Area Senior Vice President for South Asia at Radisson Hotel Group, revealed that the October to December quarter has set a new record for the highest revenue-generating period in the company’s history across South Asia.
Sharma noted that Radisson’s resort properties in popular destinations like Mamallapuram, Lonavala, Karjat, and Udaipur are experiencing a surge in demand, with several dates already sold out due to the rising popularity of destination weddings.
Similarly, Raj Chopra, Chairman and Managing Director of JW Marriott Mussoorie and JW Marriott Goa, confirmed that his properties have seen the highest-ever number of bookings and wedding sales. With an estimated 450,000 weddings expected to take place in Delhi alone over just three weeks, it’s clear that the wedding boom is widespread and showing no signs of slowing down.
India’s wedding season is not only proving to be a boon for hoteliers but also reflects the growing demand for luxurious, bespoke wedding experiences, making it a pivotal moment for the hospitality industry.
