The host cities for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2025 were revealed this week. Thailand’s government has given its approval to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ proposal, paving the way for 32 teams from around the globe to compete for the prestigious title.
The 2025 Championships will introduce a fresh format while showcasing the powerful impact of the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment program. Of the 32 teams taking part, 19 have benefited from this initiative, which aims to enhance volleyball worldwide by providing essential support to athletes and teams striving for excellence.
Pool play will unfold across four vibrant host cities: Bangkok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. From there, the top 16 teams will advance to the intense direct elimination rounds, where the competition will reach its peak.
The action will then move to Bangkok, where the Round of 16 will feature intense battles as teams vie for a place in the quarter-finals. The winners of these matches will progress to the final phase, where the remaining contenders will fight for the ultimate championship.
The Drawing of Lots ceremony for the tournament is set to take place on December 17 in Bangkok.
Sorawong Thienthong, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, shared that the event is projected to attract 1.3 million visitors, highlighting the country’s rich cultural heritage and diverse tourist attractions. Additionally, during the competition, Thailand will promote the “Green Hearts Campaign,” encouraging the public to unite and show policymakers the nation’s call for swift and meaningful action to address the climate crisis.
The competition will kick off on August 22, 2025, and conclude with the finals on September 7.
The men’s World Championships will also be held in Asia, with the Philippines welcoming 32 teams as they battle for the title. The tournament is set to begin on September 12, 2025, with the opening match between the host nation and Tunisia.
On the second day, the United States, Japan, and Poland—three-time world champions and FIVB World Ranking leaders—will take to the court. Defending champions Italy will begin their title defense on the third day, alongside the current Olympic champions, France.
The 2025 World Championships will mark the start of a new era for the tournament. For the first time, the competition will take place biannually, with an expanded field of 32 teams per gender.
The 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship will be held from September 12 to 28, 2025.
