Exclusive Benefits For Australian And New Zealand Travelers To Boost Tourism In Korea 4

Australian passport holders can now enjoy a last-minute perk allowing them to visit a renowned tourist hotspot without incurring any visa fees.

Australian passport holders can now travel to South Korea without needing a tourist visa, thanks to a special exemption that eliminates visa fees for visiting the country.

Since April 1, 2023, South Korea has lifted the requirement for Australian and New Zealand citizens to obtain the Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA), simplifying travel for these passport holders.

Originally launched as part of the Visit Korea Year 2023-24 campaign, a government effort to boost tourism, the exemption was initially scheduled to conclude by the end of 2024, leaving many potential travelers concerned about future restrictions.

As part of the program, unprecedented numbers of travelers from Australia and New Zealand have explored the vibrant Asian peninsula. In response to this success, the Korean government has decided to extend the K-ETA waiver until December 31, 2025.

Travelers from nations not eligible for the K-ETA waiver must complete an online application a minimum of 72 hours before their departure to South Korea. Typically, the K-ETA costs 10,000 Korean won, approximately $A11.

The temporary K-ETA exemption currently applies to nationals from 22 countries, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Macao, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, the UK, and the USA.

Travelers from these exempt nations who voluntarily apply for a K-ETA or possess a valid one from before the exemption period can proceed through Korean immigration without the need to complete an arrival card.
