All Nippon Airways achieves a milestone as the first Japanese airline to earn IATA’s CEIV Li-batt certification, setting global standards for lithium battery safety.
All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s leading 5-Star airline for 12 consecutive years, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Japanese carrier to earn the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Lithium Batteries (CEIV Li-batt) certification on December 24, 2024. This prestigious recognition underscores ANA’s dedication to maintaining the highest safety and compliance standards for lithium battery transportation.
As the use of lithium batteries continues to surge, particularly in electric vehicles and other industries across Asia, the demand for secure handling of these potentially hazardous materials has grown exponentially. ANA has implemented robust measures, including advanced staff training, specialized equipment, stringent safety protocols, and rigorous quality controls, to meet IATA’s strict certification criteria. These practices are primarily executed at its international cargo hub at Narita International Airport. By achieving this certification, ANA reaffirms its commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient lithium battery transportation throughout its global network.
“At ANA, our top priority is safety and the reliability of our services to our valued customers,” said Kenichi Wakiya, Executive Vice President, Cargo Marketing & Services of ANA and President & CEO of ANA Cargo. “Being CEIV Li-batt certified by IATA reinforces our commitment to meeting our customers’ needs by providing the highest standards of safe transport.”
“We congratulate ANA on achieving CEIV Li-batt certification. This certification underscores ANA’s commitment to meeting the highest standards in handling and transporting lithium batteries safely and efficiently. The CEIV Li-batt program is vital for ensuring safety and compliance across the supply chain, and we are pleased to see ANA contributing towards raising the industry benchmark,” said Nick Careen, IATA SVP Operations Safety and Security.
Alongside the CEIV Li-batt certification, ANA has also received IATA’s CEIV Pharma and CEIV Fresh certifications, recognizing its excellence in the transport of pharmaceuticals and perishables. ANA continues to focus on broadening its service offerings while consistently improving quality across all aspects of its operations.
