Hue City ushered in 2025 with a vibrant start, hosting its first international cruise ship at Chan May Port in Phu Loc District on Thursday.
The event, coordinated by the municipal Department of Tourism, Chan May Port JSC, and Saigontourist Travel Service Co., Ltd., showcased Hue’s rising prominence as a top-tier travel destination.
The Bahamas-flagged cruise ship Anthem of the Seas, operated by Royal Caribbean, brought 4,455 international tourists from nations including the U.K., Australia, and the U.S.
Guests were warmly welcomed with traditional Vietnamese hospitality, featuring flower garlands, special gifts, and an energetic lion dance performance.
Around 2,000 cruise passengers set off on journeys to explore central Vietnam’s famous destinations, including Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Nam.
In Hue, over 500 travelers explored landmarks such as the Imperial City, Tu Duc Tomb, and Thien Mu Pagoda, delving into the area’s rich cultural history.
The Department of Tourism revealed optimistic projections for 2025, with 49 cruise ships carrying close to 100,000 passengers and 39,212 crew members already scheduled to dock at Chan May Port.
These plans build on the achievements of 2024, during which the port welcomed 40 cruise ships and over 90,000 passengers and crew.
The region has set ambitious goals for 2025, targeting up to 5 million visitors, with international tourists accounting for 38% to 40% of that figure.
Tourism revenue is expected to range between VND10.8 trillion and VND11.2 trillion (approximately US$425.4 million to US$441.2 million). To meet these objectives, the city has prepared a packed calendar of events for the National Tourism Year and Hue Festival 2025, celebrating the theme of four seasons.
