India’s digital travel revolution is soaring to new heights. DigiYatra, the innovative facial recognition-based system for seamless airport passage, has announced a major milestone: 10 million app downloads!

This impressive achievement underscores the platform’s growing popularity and its transformative impact on air travel within the country.

What is DigiYatra and How Does It Work?

DigiYatra is an advanced passenger verification system based on Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) technology. It utilizes facial biometrics to authenticate travellers, eliminating the need for physical boarding passes or identity verification at multiple checkpoints.

Here’s how the DigiYatra system works:

  1. Registration: Travelers download the DigiYatra app and register their details, including Aadhaar-linked credentials for identity verification.
  2. Face Authentication: Upon arrival at the airport, passengers scan their faces at designated DigiYatra entry points.
  3. Seamless Entry: The system automatically matches facial biometrics with the registered profile, allowing swift access without manual document checks.
  4. Faster Boarding: Once cleared at the security checkpoint, travellers can proceed to board gates without showing additional documents.

This hassle-free, touchless process not only improves efficiency but also enhances passenger privacy by leveraging decentralized data storage.

10 Million Users Embrace the Future of Travel

Launched in December 2022, DigiYatra has quickly become a favourite among Indian travellers. By leveraging facial biometric technology, it offers a contactless and hassle-free experience at 24 airports across India.

To date, DigiYatra has facilitated over 45 million smooth journeys, eliminating long queues and streamlining the entire airport process. With a daily average of 30,000 app downloads, the platform is setting new benchmarks for digital travel solutions.

What Makes DigiYatra So Popular?

DigiYatra’s success can be attributed to its focus on convenience, efficiency, and data privacy. The platform’s Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI)-based ecosystem ensures that user data remains secure and under their control.

This commitment to privacy, coupled with ease of use, has resonated with travellers, driving the platform’s rapid growth. The recent ‘d-KYC’ campaign further boosted user adoption in 2024.

DigiYatra’s Future Plans for 2025

The success of DigiYatra has set the stage for ambitious expansion plans in 2025. CEO Suresh Khadakbhavi emphasized that the platform’s rapid adoption reflects strong user trust and confidence.

  • Multilingual Support: DigiYatra aims to support all 22 official Indian languages, ensuring accessibility for a diverse range of travellers.
  • International Pilot Project: Plans are in place to integrate DigiYatra with international airport systems, enabling foreign travellers with e-passports to experience its seamless benefits.
  • Collaboration with IATA: DigiYatra’s partnership with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) will drive global adoption through the IATA One-ID initiative.

With privacy, security, and convenience at its core, DigiYatra is set to redefine air travel in India and beyond, making the airport experience faster and more traveller-friendly.
