Air India Express, owned by the Tata Group, is gearing up to expand its international reach with plans to start direct flights to Bangkok and Phuket. The addition of these two popular Thai destinations is part of the airline’s broader efforts to enhance its network and cater to both leisure travellers and the expat community.
Current Network and Growing Domestic Presence
Presently, Air India Express operates flights to 14 international cities, with a focus on the Middle East. Additionally, the airline serves 35 domestic destinations across India. With a fleet of 90 aircraft, the airline conducts more than 400 flights daily, connecting major cities within and outside of India.
In addition to new Thai routes, Air India Express recently announced flights to Jammu and Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram), set to begin on December 1. These additions are anticipated to boost connectivity to high-demand regions and support domestic travel growth.

Expanding in the Leisure Travel Market
Aiming to attract leisure travellers, Air India Express has also launched “XPress Holidays,” an exclusive platform on its website. Passengers can now seamlessly book accommodations, transport, and sightseeing activities alongside their flights, simplifying travel planning and enhancing the overall travel experience.
Fleet and Strategic Merger with AIX Connect
Following a recent merger with AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India), Air India Express has bolstered its fleet and streamlined operations. The airline’s current fleet comprises 61 Boeing 737s and 29 Airbus A320s, offering a mix of comfort and capacity to serve a diverse range of routes.
