AirHelp has acquired ClaimCompass, expanding its services to help more travelers secure compensation for flight delays, cancellations, and overbookings worldwide.

AirHelp, the global leader in flight compensation services, has successfully acquired ClaimCompass, a prominent platform dedicated to helping air travelers claim compensation for delayed, canceled, or overbooked flights.

Founded in 2013, AirHelp has established itself as the foremost company for enforcing passenger rights, assisting travelers in securing compensation for travel disruptions. With a team of over 400 professionals, the company has processed more than 16 million claims and helped over 2 million passengers. Backed by Khosla Ventures, AirHelp was also a participant in Y Combinator’s Winter 2014 batch.

ClaimCompass, co-founded in 2015 by Tatyana Mitkova, Alexander Sumin, and Velizar Shulev, has built its reputation by leveraging EU Regulation 261/2004, which ensures compensation for passengers impacted by flight disruptions. The company has received backing from notable investors such as 500 Startups, Hustle Fund, and Social Capital. ClaimCompass is dedicated to helping passengers navigate the often complex claims process, offering a “no win, no fee” guarantee, and using their expertise in EU aviation law to build strong cases for compensation.

Despite the widespread application of EU Regulation 261/2004 since 2005, many passengers remain unaware of their rights, with airlines frequently neglecting to inform them of potential compensation. ClaimCompass has been a key player in educating and assisting passengers, using legal and technical expertise to enforce claims and fight for compensation on behalf of those who may not have the time or knowledge to do so themselves.

ClaimCompass expanded its reach in 2020 by acquiring Service, a claims processing platform backed by Founders Fund, Menlo Ventures, and Maveron, in an effort to penetrate the U.S. market. Despite a successful integration and app relaunch, the venture struggled to gain traction amid the restrictions imposed on global travel due to the pandemic.

To date, ClaimCompass has helped over 500,000 travelers and processed claims totaling more than $110 million.

The financial details of the acquisition remain confidential.
