Marking its 25th anniversary in 2025, the internationally acclaimed wellness retreat, Ananda in the Himalayas, has introduced new luxury accommodations along with elegant upgrades to several of its signature suites.
Delhi-based designer Deepa Sama spearheaded the six-month transformation, focusing on enhancing the guest experience by seamlessly blending the retreat’s natural surroundings into its design. With the completion of these renovations, the retreat, set on 100 acres of lush Himalayan foothills, now boasts 64 rooms, 3 villas, and 8 suites.
A highlight of these updates is the introduction of a new room category: the Deluxe Suites. These suites offer sweeping views of either the tranquil Rishikesh valley or the majestic Maharaja’s gardens. Each Deluxe Suite features a private balcony where guests can immerse themselves in nature’s beauty. These two-bay suites embody a refined mix of luxury, comfort, and stunning vistas.
Inside, the suites are thoughtfully designed with elegantly furnished bedrooms that flow into serene sitting areas, capturing Ananda’s philosophy of understated luxury. The spacious bathrooms are outfitted with life-size mirrors, lavish bathtubs, and windows offering picturesque views of the gardens or valley. Each suite includes two full bathrooms, providing ample privacy for guests traveling together. Additionally, the new Garden Suite boasts a secluded garden with an outdoor deck, complete with a chaise lounge and tea table, offering the ultimate relaxation retreat.
The renovation also extended to the Ananda Suite and the historic Viceregal Suite. The three-bay Ananda Suite, located on the ground floor, features a private garden with a gazebo, perfect for tranquil outdoor moments. Meanwhile, the Viceregal Suite, nestled in the Maharaja’s Palace, offers a private terrace with a rooftop gazebo that overlooks the landscaped gardens and the distant Ganga Valley. These sophisticated updates to the suites highlight the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor living, enhancing guests’ connection with nature.
Aashica Khanna, Director of Ananda in the Himalayas, said: “At Ananda, we are deeply committed to a design philosophy that harmonizes each space with the natural beauty of our surroundings, creating an immersive experience that brings guests closer to a sense of inner peace and renewal. In response to a growing desire among our guests for more spacious accommodations, we reimagined our guest rooms into three luxurious new suites- two spacious two-bay Deluxe Suites and a new Garden Suite. At the same time, we renovated our timeless Ananda and Viceregal suites. These enhancements reflect our dedication to providing not just a stay, but a sanctuary for the soul in the heart of the Himalayas.”
In June 2022, Ananda completed a comprehensive property-wide renovation, marking the end of a three-year redesign that revitalized its villas, restaurant, and spa. Building on these upgrades, the retreat has since introduced a culinary show kitchen and launched several innovative wellness programs aimed at addressing concerns like hormonal health, sleep improvement, fertility, and more.
Renowned globally for its commitment to holistic well-being, Ananda continues to lead the wellness industry by integrating ancient healing traditions such as Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), yoga, and meditation. It has established itself as a transformative sanctuary where guests can reconnect with their inner selves, overcome emotional and physical challenges, and rediscover their sense of purpose. This holistic philosophy promotes long-term health, emotional balance, and spiritual peace, offering guests a life-changing experience.
By blending personalized care with time-honored wellness practices, Ananda sets a new standard in wellness tourism. Its approach transforms travel into more than just a rejuvenating escape—it becomes a meaningful journey towards personal growth, healing, and positive societal impact.
