Chip enabled e-passports to be launched nationwide this May, 2025. The e-passport will be featuring biometric data. E-passports will help prevent fraud and make the immigration clearance faster than usual at Airports. It has enhanced security features to identify theft and fraud activities. The e-passports have encrypted chip which protects ones personal data including name, photograph, address, date of birth.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has developed these biometric e-passports as per the standards to make them tamper-proof globally. The travelers will now enjoy smooth, hassle free and also faster immigration checks. The e-passports will also reduce the waiting time at the international borders and visa check points. The test rollouts by Indian Government were started last year in the month of April, 2024 and are set to be launched now in May, 2025. Digital secure passport services will now be enjoyed by the Indian citizens. The e-passports are not mandatory now for the travelers who already hold a valid passport. When the Passport Offices near you are technically enabled to provide the e-passports they will issue it.
