In October 2024, Cyprus experienced a notable surge in tourism, with tourist arrivals increasing by 6.4% compared to the same month in 2023.
The total number of tourists reached 426,272, up from 400,628 in October 2023.
This growth contributed to a cumulative total of 3,562,417 tourist arrivals from January to October 2024, marking a significant 21.1% increase over the 2,941,182 arrivals during the same period in 2023.
The United Kingdom remained the leading source of tourists, accounting for 36.2% (154,373) of the total arrivals in October 2024. Germany followed with 7.1% (30,178), and Poland contributed 6.7% (28,649) to the tourist influx.
Regarding the purpose of visits, 82.5% of tourists traveled to Cyprus for holidays, 10.9% visited friends and relatives, and 6.4% arrived for business purposes.
In comparison, October 2023 saw 83.1% of tourists visiting for holidays, 11.5% for social visits, and 5.3% for business.
In addition to the rise in tourist arrivals, there was a 9.9% increase in the number of Cypriot residents returning from trips abroad.
In October 2024, 131,327 residents returned, up from 119,466 in October 2023.
The primary destinations for these residents were Greece (34.1% or 44,795 individuals), the United Kingdom (8.2% or 10,751), and Italy (6.2% or 8,176).
The main reasons for travel among Cypriot residents were holidays (65.1%), business (30.0%), studies (2.2%), and other purposes (2.8%).
These statistics underscore Cyprus’s growing appeal as a tourist destination and reflect the increased mobility of its residents.
The data was collected through the Passengers Survey conducted at Larnaka and Pafos airports, supplemented by administrative sources such as monthly arrivals from ports.
The survey covers all individuals passing through passport control in the government-controlled areas of Cyprus, excluding those entering or exiting illegally via ports and airports in the occupied regions.
