To suit local traffic needs, the highway was designed with underpasses, ROBs, and bridges. A 28.4-kilometer service road has also been built along the way. The new highway is intended to reduce traffic on the Delhi-Meerut highway, with an estimated 30,000 passenger cars switching to the new route.
The whole 239-kilometer freeway between Delhi and Dehradun is scheduled to be completed by December. However, slight delays in the Uttar Pradesh sector might push this schedule back a few months. Union Road Transport Secretary Anurag Jain has asked for assistance from the UP Chief Secretary to ensure the timely completion of the project, which is scheduled for assessment by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the next Pragati meeting.

Once fully operational, the highway will shorten the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from more than six hours to around 2.5 hours. It would also include a 51-kilometer connection to Haridwar for speedier access. The highway will contain 12 wayside facilities to improve passenger comfort.
