Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Winter Char Dham Yatra on Sunday with prayers at the Omkareshwar Temple, the winter residence of Kedarnath, located in Ukhimath, Rudraprayag district. During the event, he assessed the arrangements made by the administration for the pilgrimage and urged officials to prioritize a seamless and comfortable journey for devotees.
The iconic Char Dham temples—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath—remain closed during the winter months due to heavy snowfall. In their place, the Winter Char Dham Yatra includes visits to alternative pilgrimage sites, such as Ukhimath, Pandukeshwar, Kharsali, and Mukhba, as highlighted by the state tourism department.
Dhami emphasized that the winter pilgrimage will play a pivotal role in enhancing religious tourism in the region.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, accompanied by cabinet ministers and other officials, will tour several winter pilgrimage destinations to inspire devotees to visit these sacred sites. To attract more visitors, the state government has introduced special incentives, such as a 10% discount on accommodations at Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) tourist rest houses.
In parallel, Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has undertaken comprehensive measures to guarantee a stable electricity supply at winter tourism and pilgrimage locations. These efforts align with directives issued by the Chief Minister to ensure a smooth experience for travelers.
Key materials, including conductors, cables, poles, and transformers, have been strategically stocked at primary locations to address any potential needs. Furthermore, power lines in winter tourism hotspots are undergoing regular inspections, with proactive measures like tree trimming and looping being implemented to minimize interruptions caused by overhanging branches.
The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has also directed its regional teams to ensure adequate resources are readily available across multiple areas to maintain uninterrupted power supply during the winter tourism season.
