Geneva’s tourism sector is experiencing strong growth in 2024, with a 24% rise in congresses, confirming its position as a key hub for international events.
Adrien Genier, Director of Geneva Tourism, highlights the city’s ongoing success in attracting medical, legal, and scientific congresses, which remain a vital source of economic activity.
“We were unsure if the post-pandemic rebound would continue, but 2024 has exceeded expectations,” says Genier. The city’s ability to maintain and grow international events is driving a dynamic tourism industry, despite challenges such as the discontinuation of the Geneva International Motor Show.
Event Diversification & Strategic Growth
While the end of the Motor Show marks a shift, Geneva is expanding its event portfolio with thriving industries like luxury watchmaking and fine jewelry, along with emerging conferences such as AI for Good, a premier artificial intelligence event.
Women’s Euro 2025: A Sporting Highlight
Geneva is set to host five matches of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, an exciting milestone for the city’s tourism. Genier encourages locals to embrace the tournament: “Get your tickets and be part of this unique experience!”
However, the event coincides with a major challenge—the temporary closure of Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva, Switzerland’s largest five-star hotel, for a three-year renovation.
Genier remains optimistic, stating that the significant investments in Geneva’s hospitality sector reflect long-term confidence in the city’s growth.
AI Innovations Enhance Visitor Experience
Innovation remains a priority for Geneva Tourism.
The organization is testing an AI-powered chatbot to enhance visitor engagement: “AI is a powerful tool, but it requires high-quality content to be truly effective,” Genier explains.
This initiative highlights Geneva’s commitment to digital transformation in tourism services.
