IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is set to introduce a custom business product to cater to the country’s growing business travel market. The airline plans to introduce business class on some routes by the end of 2024. This move follows record aircraft orders last year and the introduction of widebody aircraft. IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers praised the move as a way to redefine luxury travel in India, given the country’s booming economy and changing ambitions. The new product will be operational on key commercial routes by the end of the year.
The nation’s biggest airline, IndiGo, has stated that it would introduce a new custom business product to accommodate India’s busiest and business-specific routes in an effort to capitalize on the expanding business travel market in the country. The airline reportedly plans to introduce business class on a few of its routes.
This latest decision to introduce Business Class on flights is proof of the airline’s desire to broaden its horizons and products after making record aircraft orders last year, which coincided with the publication of the airline’s fourth quarter and fiscal year 2024 results. It’s also shown by the recent announcement of the introduction of widebody aircraft. When it began operating eighteen years ago, IndiGo was a cheap airline; now, it is well-positioned to transition into a full-service carrier.
By year’s end, the new product will be operational and accessible on the country’s key commercial routes.
“IndiGo transformed air travel in India almost eighteen years ago by emphasizing three consumer promises: reasonable pricing, punctual service, and easy and polite handling. Now that we are about 18 years old and fully developed, it is time for IndiGo to go on with its development. It’s time for IndiGo to redefine luxury travel in India and expand the availability of this service for the country, given the country’s booming economy and changing ambitions. In a release, the airline stated, “It will create a desired option for many who are aiming to travel business, perhaps for the first time in their lives.”
Notably, the business class will operate by the end of this year and be accessible on the major commercial routes in the country. More information on the product line, the launch window, and the routes will be revealed in August, which is also IndiGo’s anniversary month.
“As the most popular airline in India, we are always looking to innovate our service offering for our millions of customers.” India’s and IndiGo’s development stories have been closely related over the last 18 years. We think it is our duty to provide the New India even more alternatives when it comes to business travel, especially as the country prepares to emerge as the third biggest economy in the world. We are thrilled about this new stage and specially designed product in IndiGo’s progress and strategy, and we want to link people and ambitions to further give the country wings.”
Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo
Another quarter of solid financial success was recorded by IndiGo, driven by many initiatives and helped by a positive external environment. In March 2024, IndiGo declared a net profit of INR 18,948 million for the quarter that ended.
In March 2024, IndiGo declared a net profit of INR 81,725 million for the fiscal year that concluded.
In comparison to the prior year, IndiGo had notable growth during the year that concluded on March 31, 2024. The capacity climbed by 21.8 percent to 139.3 billion, able to handle a 24.7 percent rise in passengers to 106.7 million.

The rate of return decreased by only 1% to INR 5.08, but the load factor improved by 3.8 points to 85.9%, which is a noteworthy increase. The 26.6% rise in Revenue from Operations, or INR 689,043 million, further reflects this development.
A major aspect of cost efficiency was the 17% drop in fuel CASK and the 3.6% decrease in CASK ex fuel. With a net profit of INR 81,725 million and an EBITDAR of INR 175,447 million, the financial performance was strong in comparison to the previous year’s net loss of INR 3,058 million.
According to Elbers, the airline’s last year was marked by “many remarkable achievements and milestones.” “With a total revenue of around 712 billion rupees, we posted the greatest net profit margin of 11.9%, along with a net profit of almost 82 billion rupees. All four of FY24’s quarters were profitable thanks to the fourth quarter’s strong financial outcomes. We hit the goals that we as a team had set for ourselves at the start of the year thanks to the excellent execution of our plan,” he said, offering his assessment of the outcomes.
