Koh Samui welcomed 3,900 international visitors on a luxury cruise ship stop, offering a day of sightseeing and shopping before the ship sailed for Laem Chabang.
On November 25, the luxury cruise ship MV Celebrity Solstice made a brief stop at Koh Samui, delivering 3,900 passengers and crew to the idyllic island. The ship had sailed in from Laem Chabang port in Chonburi and brought aboard 2,700 tourists from countries such as the UK, Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, and the US, accompanied by 1,200 crew members. Authorities, including tourism officials and police, were on hand to ensure the safety and comfort of the visitors during their stay.
Tourists took the opportunity to explore Koh Samui’s famous landmarks, with many opting for safari tours to traverse the island’s mountainous terrain. Others hired taxis to visit popular spots like the Big Buddha Temple, Chaweng Beach, Lamai Beach, and the famous Hin Ta Hin Yai rock formations. These iconic destinations provided ample opportunities for sightseeing and relaxation.
Local businesses are hopeful that the visit will boost the island’s economy, with expectations of generating around 5 million baht ($145,000) in revenue. The influx of tourists was seen as a welcome contribution to the local economy, providing a brief but significant boost to the tourism sector.
On November 5, the Celebrity Solstice cruise ship made a day-long stop at Koh Samui, bringing 2,830 international visitors along with its crew. The ship anchored in Ban Na Thon Bay, where passengers disembarked to explore the island’s top attractions and enjoy some shopping. After a day of sightseeing and leisure, the cruise ship set sail for Laem Chabang port in the evening, concluding its brief visit.
The Celebrity Solstice follows a cruise route that takes it through Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand’s Laem Chabang, and Koh Samui before making its way back to Singapore. Koh Samui is set to host 73 cruise ships from November 2024 through late 2025, marking a 10% rise in arrivals compared to the previous year.
