Münster/Osnabrück Airport achieves a record growth in 2024 with new airlines and destinations

Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) experienced remarkable growth in 2024, becoming Germany‘s fastest-growing airport.

The airport welcomed nearly 1.3 million passengers, marking a 30% increase from the 991,500 passengers in 2023.

This surge was driven by strong leisure travel demand and the addition of new airlines and destinations.

Several airlines expanded their services at FMO in 2024.

Ryanair introduced flights to Alicante on March 31, 2024, operating twice weekly, and plans to add a twice-weekly service to Málaga starting April 1, 2025.

Additionally, Ryanair will commence a thrice-weekly service to London Stansted on March 30, 2025, reestablishing a UK connection for FMO after several years.

Corendon Airlines is set to launch weekly flights to İzmir on June 30, 2025, making it the second Turkish destination served from FMO after Antalya.

The airport’s growth was further supported by the arrival of new carriers, including Air Anka, Condor, Mavi Gök Airlines, Pegasus Airlines (returning after last serving FMO in 2019), and Sundair, which has based an aircraft at the airport for the winter season.

Looking ahead to the summer 2025 schedule, FMO is set to host 13 airlines serving 15 destinations, with Lufthansa, Ryanair, and SunExpress leading in weekly departures.

Lufthansa has announced plans to consolidate its transfer traffic through Munich Airport.

Starting October 27, 2024, the airline will increase its Munich service from FMO, utilizing larger Airbus A319/A320 aircraft, while discontinuing its domestic route to Frankfurt.

This strategic move aims to enhance passenger convenience and connectivity.

FMO’s unique 24/7 operations without slot restrictions offer unparalleled convenience for travelers.

The airport’s official website highlights its extensive range of destinations, including popular leisure spots such as Palma de Mallorca, Antalya, and new additions like London and Málaga.

As FMO continues to expand its network and attract new carriers, it solidifies its position as a key player in Germany’s aviation sector, offering passengers increased options and flexibility for their travel plans.
