Sarovar Hotels is set to debut a Royal Tulip hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal, featuring 304 rooms and scheduled to open in the first half of 2025. Developed in partnership with Massif Hotel, this property will become Nepal’s largest, surpassing existing hospitality offerings. Designed to cater to mountaineers, pilgrims, and business travelers from India and Southeast Asia, the hotel will offer competitive pricing, making it an ideal venue for weddings and special events. Sarovar Hotels is also broadening its footprint with upcoming properties across India, Africa, and other regions. The group anticipates a 12-13% revenue boost in 2025, driven by its expanding portfolio.
Sarovar Hotels has announced its plans to launch Nepal’s largest hotel, a 304-room Royal Tulip property, slated to open in the first half of 2025. According to Ajay K. Bakaya, Chairman of Sarovar Hotels, this milestone project is part of the group’s broader strategy to unveil 15 new hotels across India and international markets in 2025.
Located near Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the hotel is being developed in collaboration with Nepal’s Massif Hotel. Once operational, it will surpass Nepal’s current largest hotels, including The Soaltee and Hyatt Regency, which feature 284 and 280 rooms, respectively.
The hotel will cater to a diverse clientele, including mountaineers, pilgrims, and business travelers from India and Southeast Asia. Bakaya highlighted that lower room rates in Kathmandu compared to Indian cities make it a compelling destination for weddings and other large-scale events.
In 2024, Sarovar Hotels significantly expanded its portfolio, adding 27 new properties and bringing its total to 135 hotels. Approximately 55% of these are under the mid-market Sarovar Portico brand. The group also plans to strengthen its footprint in Africa with upcoming projects in Somaliland and Uganda, complementing its established operations in Kenya and Zambia.
In India, Sarovar is preparing to open a 156-room Sarovar Portico hotel in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. This will be the group’s third owned property, joining its hotels in Chandigarh and Roorkee. Most of Sarovar’s properties are operated on behalf of individual owners.
Bakaya projects a 12-13% revenue increase in 2025, driven by the opening of new properties, which are expected to elevate occupancy levels and average daily rates. With a focus on expansion and competitive pricing, Sarovar Hotels aims to solidify its position as a leader in the hospitality sector while meeting the needs of a growing and diverse traveler base.
