Noida International Airport has marked a key achievement with the successful validation flight completed on December 9, 2024, an essential step in the airport’s licensing journey. This achievement was honored in the distinguished presence of Shri Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, the Hon’ble Minister of Civil Aviation.. The validation flight, operated by IndiGo, the airport’s launch carrier, tested and confirmed the accuracy of the airport’s approach procedures, navigational systems, and air traffic control capabilities. This vital phase underscores NIA’s commitment to meeting the rigorous safety and operational standards necessary for commercial flights. After this flight, NIA will move forward with completing the necessary documentation for aerodrome certification and submit it to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for approval..
This achievement builds on the successful calibration of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) systems in October 2024, conducted by the Airports Authority of India with support from the DGCA. Moreover, the successful completion of simulation trials for the Required Navigation Performance (RNP) procedures further enhances the safety standards for aircraft operations at NIA.
Christoph Schnellmann, CEO, Noida International Airport, said “The successful completion of validation flights at Noida International Airport is a proud moment for our entire team. This milestone reflects the dedication and meticulous planning that has gone into ensuring the airport is ready for commercial operations. We are gearing up for the airport’s opening and look forward to welcoming passengers to the airport.”
The validation flight, performed with an Airbus A-320, is aimed at testing the RNP (Required Navigation Performance) procedures and ILS approach procedures. RNP defines a set of navigation standards that enable aircraft to follow highly accurate and precise flight paths.
