Phu Quoc has been honored as one of the top islands in the world for the third consecutive year, solidifying its status as a premier global travel destination.
Phu Quoc, the only Vietnamese destination to be included in the prestigious list of top islands worldwide by the acclaimed travel publication Condé Nast Traveller, has achieved second place among the top 10 best islands in Asia, according to the 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards.
Condé Nast Traveller revealed the results of its highly anticipated 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards in early October. These awards are among the most respected in the global tourism sector, known for their stringent voting criteria and recognition of excellence.
In this 37th edition, Vietnam received recognition in two categories. The country was ranked 15th among the 20 best travel destinations globally, a testament to its growing appeal to international visitors.
Phu Quoc also secured a spot on the coveted “Top Islands in the World” list for the third consecutive year, boasting an impressive score of 95.36 points—an increase from last year’s score of 88.89. This high score is based on reader satisfaction across various criteria, such as service quality, scenic beauty, beaches, cuisine, and hospitality.
With this remarkable rating, Phu Quoc climbed to second place among the best islands in Asia, improving from last year’s eighth place. It now trails just behind Bali (Indonesia), which scored 95.71. The island surpassed other popular destinations like Koh Samui and Phuket (Thailand), as well as Langkawi and Penang (Malaysia).
In 2024, Phu Quoc transformed from a “hidden gem” to a global tourist hotspot, receiving continuous praise from the global travel community. Earlier this year, Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards ranked Phu Quoc as the second-best island in the world, just behind the Maldives.
Phu Quoc also earned recognition from DestinAsian as one of the top 10 best islands in Asia. Additionally, Lonely Planet hailed it as a top beach destination of the last decade, and South Korea’s leading newspaper, the Chosun Ilbo, highlighted it as a sensory-filled experience for travelers.
This surge in popularity underscores Phu Quoc’s evolving charm. Besides its breathtaking natural scenery, the island offers unique entertainment experiences and boasts some of the world’s most luxurious resort facilities. It is also the only destination in Vietnam with an extensive visa exemption policy, allowing tourists to stay for up to 30 days.
World-renowned brands like JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort, La Festa Phu Quoc – Curio Collection by Hilton, New World Phu Quoc Resort, and Premier Village Phu Quoc have helped establish the island as a luxury resort haven, appealing to even the most discerning travelers. International media often dub Phu Quoc the “Maldives of Vietnam,” thanks to its stunning landscapes and top-tier services.
Visitors can enjoy various unforgettable experiences in Phu Quoc, from riding the world’s longest three-rope cable car to Hon Thom Island to watching the sunset at Kiss Bridge, the island’s most picturesque spot. The island also hosts world-class performances, such as Kiss of the Sea, which fuses eight different types of performance art, and Symphony of the Sea, which will soon debut with an exciting mix of jet ski and flyboard stunts, combined with traditional Vietnamese drumming and flag performances.
Sunset Town on Phu Quoc offers daily artistic fireworks shows, adding a festive atmosphere throughout the year. Tourists can also explore local culture by visiting fishing villages, pepper farms, and fish sauce factories, while sampling traditional dishes like bun quay (stirred noodles) and herring salad, delicacies unique to the island.
In the first nine months of 2024, Phu Quoc welcomed over 720,000 international visitors, marking a 56% increase from the previous year, surpassing its annual target by 8.6%.
The island now draws tourists from more than 150 countries and regions, offering direct flights from destinations such as South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, and Taiwan (China). Starting in October 2024, new flight routes will expand connections to Hong Kong (China), Singapore, and several Eastern European countries, including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland. Additionally, there will be flights from Russia, Mongolia, and various Central Asian nations, such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
Phu Quoc is projected to host 100 international flights weekly during the peak year-end tourist season, a 25% increase from last year. The island’s rising prominence, fueled by numerous prestigious international awards, is expected to continue propelling its reputation as a “tropical paradise” and a must-visit destination for travelers worldwide.
