AirAsia is setting an ambitious goal of welcoming five million guests to Sabah in 2025, nearly doubling the 3.7 million arrivals recorded in 2024. This target encompasses both domestic and international travelers, underscoring the airline’s pivotal role in boosting regional connectivity and driving economic growth.
To achieve this milestone, AirAsia plans to enhance its network of 27 routes, which include 13 domestic and 14 international connections to and from Sabah. These upgrades aim to support a 35% increase in annual flights, surpassing 51,500, and a 43% rise in seat capacity.
In 2024, the airline significantly contributed to Sabah’s success in attracting over three million visitors, cementing its status as a leader in fostering connectivity and promoting tourism growth in the region.
As part of its commitment to bolstering Sabah’s tourism ecosystem, AirAsia is conducting a series of roadshows throughout the state. These events aim to strengthen partnerships, enhance critical tourism elements such as accommodations, activities, and transportation, and explore strategic investments to elevate the region’s tourism infrastructure.
In 2024, AirAsia joined forces with the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) in a strategic five-year collaboration aimed at revitalizing the region’s tourism industry. This partnership focuses on enhancing air connectivity within the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) while also expanding routes to key destinations across the broader ASEAN region, North Asia, and Oceania from 2024 through 2028.
