Sikkim Fixes Cab Rates to Stop Overcharging Between Nathula and Gangtok

The Sikkim government has set cab rates between Nathula and Gangtok to prevent overcharging. The round-trip fare for luxury and regular vehicles is ₹7,000 and ₹6,500, including permit charges. The Transport Department will enforce laws and grant permits for up to 800 vehicles until June 30th.

The cab rate between Nathula and Gangtok has been set by the Sikkim government in order to stop tour providers from overcharging.

With immediate effect, the round-trip fare for luxury and regular vehicles between Nathula and Gangtok is ₹7,000 and ₹6,500, respectively, including the permit charge, per an order issued by Principal Secretary (Tourism and Civil Aviation Department) C S Rao.

In case there is a problem with the charge of extra fees, the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department has also made public its phone number and police checkpoint.

For any concerns about the charge of extra fees, the offended guests may get in touch with the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department at 9434182178, the Police Check Post at 7908081127, and the Transport Department at 9434126851.

According to the order, the Transport Department would rigorously enforce the relevant laws of the Central Motor Vehicle Act 1988 & CMV Rules 1989, and Sikkim Motor Vehicles Rules 1991 against anybody found to be in violation of the aforementioned rates.

Additionally, up until June 30th, the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department would only grant permits for up to 800 automobiles for Nathula.

This Office Order was issued in response to a high-level meeting that was chaired by Chief Secretary V B Pathak and included representatives from the Home, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Department, the Transport Department, and DGP A K Singh.

The state administration was recently taken to task by the federal government for charging visitors visiting Sikkim extortionate taxi fares and travel permits.
