Sikkim to Showcase Tourism Potential at BTL Travel Market 2025 in Portugal
Sikkim’s tourism industry is set to expand its global reach with an invitation to participate in the Better Tourism Lisbon (BTL) Travel Market 2025, Portugal’s largest international tourism fair. This opportunity follows high-level discussions between Sikkim’s tourism delegation and the Indian Embassy in Lisbon.
Leading the delegation, Tourism & Civil Aviation Minister Tshering T. Bhutia, along with senior officials, visited Spain and Portugal as part of the state’s strategy to strengthen international tourism ties and promote Sikkim as a key travel destination. During their visit, the team met with Indian Ambassador to Portugal, Puneet Roy Kundal, at the Indian Embassy in Lisbon. The discussions centered on investment opportunities, tourism promotion, and marketing strategies to enhance Sikkim’s global visibility.
Minister Bhutia emphasized Sikkim’s diverse tourism offerings, state-supported incentives, and investment-friendly policies. Principal Secretary C.S. Rao presented an overview of the state’s tourism potential, highlighting areas for international collaboration and untapped opportunities. Ambassador Kundal, recognizing Sikkim’s growing tourism appeal, extended an invitation for the state to participate in the BTL Travel Market 2025, scheduled for March 12–16. The embassy assured its support in facilitating B2B interactions and helping Sikkim showcase its tourism potential on an international stage.
As part of its global tourism outreach, the Sikkim delegation also participated in FITUR 2025 in Spain, one of the world’s most prominent travel trade fairs, where they represented the state alongside India’s Ministry of Tourism.
This international exposure marks a significant step in positioning Sikkim as a sought-after destination for global travelers and investors.
