In May, Gardens of the Bay in Singapore will welcome its very own “Northern Lights”!
Soon, the Borealis exhibit in Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay will provide a captivating sight and a beautiful music, emulating the Northern Lights. This magical experience is available to visitors during designated nighttime hours.
Singapore is about to experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: the “Northern Lights”! Gardens of the Bay will provide breathtaking views of the Northern Lights, popularly known as the aurora borealis, for both Singaporeans and foreign tourists.
A once-in-a-lifetime event, seeing the Northern Lights is only possible in certain places, such as Finland, Iceland, and Norway. With the new light installation, these exquisite lights will have their big premiere at Gardens by the Bay on May 5. It claims to immerse spectators in the enchanted realm of this occurrence of nature.
Exact timing allows for an unparalleled burst of Northern Lights occurrences, unseen for more than 20 years, in 2024, coinciding with the solar cycle’s apex! The Straits Times had an inside look at the painstaking development of this enthralling light show by Swiss artist Dan Acher on April 22 at an exclusive preview.
With the use of thirty lasers and cloud machines carefully positioned atop the tall Supertree trunks, Borealis creates an awe-inspiring visual portrayal of the Northern Lights above over the Supertree Grove. The devices create artificial cloud particles that allow laser light to pass through, simulating the “aurora” effect and generating an airy atmosphere.
Guillaume Desbois, a French musician, has created a beautiful soundtrack to go along with this intense visual voyage, adding to the total sensory experience.
This immersive production, which has toured 40 cities in Europe, Australia, the US, and Asia, has captured the attention of viewers all over the globe. Free of charge, guests may see this breathtaking work in the Gardens on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 PM to 9:30 PM, with extra performances on Mondays from 8 PM to 8:30 PM.
Borealis will join the popular Garden Rhapsody light and music display as part of Supertree Grove’s expanding nightlife options. This means that guests can look forward to magical nights among Gardens by the Bay’s rich foliage.
