Vistara and Air India

Vistara and Air India are joining, with the former’s brand continuing until 2025. In 2022, the Tata Group purchased Air India. 2015 saw the launch of Vistara, a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines.

The well-known Indian airlines Vistara and Air India have announced a merger, which is a big milestone. However according to Campbell Wilson, the managing director and CEO of Air India, it would be a difficult process, and the brand’s identity won’t change until 2025.

“Preparations are being made behind the scenes. Legal and regulatory [approvals] are being processed. We are not hurrying the changes to the customer-facing components; rather, they will take time.”

Wilson said

For those who are unaware, Air India is a 69-year-old government-owned airline. The airlines were once again purchased by the Tata Group in January 2022 as part of a government-led disinvestment initiative. The Tata Group had announced the merger of Vistara and Air India that same year.

In 2015, Vistara started operating. It is a joint venture between Singapore Airlines and Tata Sons, 51:49. However, Singapore Airlines will get a 25.1% ownership share in the merged business after the merger.

The merger was allowed in September of last year by India, and now it has the approval of the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS). The two airlines will be able to arrange their itineraries more effectively as a result.

Wilson went on to say that they have made it very clear that Vistara would eventually become Air India, and that Air India is a well-known airline with a worldwide history that dates back around 92 years.

“In India, Vistara has immense recognition and awareness, but not as much outside of the country. Although Vistara is the basis for many of the things we are doing, we will ultimately combine the two. We won’t be hurrying it, as I say., It will likely be [finished] sometime in the next year.”

Additionally, he said that at least three hubs and some point-to-point services may be found in India. The scale of [the market] is most likely comparable to that of [those in] North America or Europe. South India has a strong flow from Asia to Africa and even from Australasia to Europe, whereas North India has a good flow from east to west.

Vistara and Air India are currently combining their workforce.
