The first phase of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, covering the stretch from Akshardham to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE), will be operational by November 2024.
This new stretch aims to alleviate daily traffic congestion for commuters traveling between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
The highway features underpasses, road over bridges (ROBs), and bridges designed to meet local traffic needs.
Infrastructure Enhancements
A 28.4-kilometer service road has been constructed alongside the highway for additional convenience.
The new expressway is expected to ease congestion on the Delhi-Meerut highway, with around 30,000 passenger cars anticipated to switch to the new route.
The entire 239-kilometer expressway from Delhi to Dehradun is targeted for completion by December 2024.
Delays in the Uttar Pradesh section could extend the completion schedule by a few months.
Union Road Transport Secretary Anurag Jain has requested assistance from the UP Chief Secretary to ensure the project remains on schedule.
Once fully operational, the highway will cut travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from over six hours to approximately 2.5 hours.
Reduced Travel Time
The expressway will also include a 51-kilometer connection to Haridwar and 12 wayside facilities to improve passenger comfort.
