Washington, DC welcomed a record 25.95 million visitors in 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic levels with a 17% increase from 2022.
The influx of visitors generated a record $10.2 billion in visitor spending and supported 102,366 local jobs, boosting the city's economy.
India emerged as the second largest inbound market for Washington, DC, with 165,100 Indian tourists contributing $287.4 million to the local economy.
Of the 25.95 million visitors, 24 million ere domestic, reaching 105% of 2019 levels. International visitation was at 1.95 million, marking an 85% return to pre-pandemic levels and a 40% increase year-over-year.

The "There’s Only One DC" campaign launched in November was pivotal in driving tourism growth by showcasing unique experiences and attractions in the city.
Destination DC plans to invest further to expand its market share, particularly targeting Indian travelers, who prioritize arts, culture, luxury amenities, and shopping.
Washington, DC's packed calendar includes iconic festivals, a star-studded sports schedule, WorldPride 2025, and the 75th NATO Summit in July 2025, expected to attract millions.
The National Zoo announced the return of two giant pandas by the end of the year, enhancing its appeal as one of only two zoos in the US to feature these animals with free entry.
Besides India, the top international markets for Washington, DC included Canada, the UK, Germany, France, South Korea, Mexico, Italy, Spain, China, and Australia.
